OpenAI aims to bring major changes in its ChatGPTs interface, with its new digital notepad. The company says that ChatGPT will get a space for editing, coding and discussing projects. Its new feature ‘Canvas’ will allow you to collaborate for any projects and even make changes if needed.

On October 3, OpenAI announced that it will be rolling out its new collaborative editing space named ‘Canvas.’ As of now it is available in its  Beta form.

In an official blog, “Canvas is a new approach and the first major update to ChatGPT’s visual interface since we launched two years ago,” OpenAI explained. The company further highlighted that ‘Canvas’ will be much different from the usual conversational space. In ‘Canvas’ you can discuss ideas. As you can add other people in this space, it becomes easy for you to generate ideas. It’s more like a discussion room. The new feature could be great for coders or content creators. The feature can help ChatGPT to get a better understanding of your needs.

Apparently, the present version of ChatGPT is not smooth when it comes to editing works. Also, ChatGPT has its own limits when it comes to do revisions or make changes. To improve this ‘Canvas,’ can come as a help. For example, in ‘Canvas’ you can edit a code or review it. Also, in case you have made any mistake, the space will automatically suggest you changes. You will get a message saying ‘this might be corrected,’ or ‘you can also add.’

Furthermore, this chat box gets automatically opened, when ChatGPT finds a mistake in your content. The collaborative chat box is built with GPT-4o. Currently, OpenAI has rolled out ‘Canvas’ for ChatGPT plus and team users. In addition to this, the education and enterprise sector will get their hands on ‘Canvas,’ in the next week. Also the feature will be available free for all users after it gets out of Beta stage.

Other updates

In addition to editing and creating codes in ‘Canvas’, you can also add writing shortcuts such as ‘suggest edits.’ These shortcuts can be used even if you are offline. Also, you can add emojis, adjust length of documents and change reading levels, among others.

You will find the shortcuts on a sidebar in the left corner of ChatGPT. The shortcuts for coding purposes includes the following:

  • Review code
  • Add logs
  • Add comments
  • Fix bugs
  • Change to a language by translating the code into a different programming language. This includes TypeScript, Python, JavaScript,, Java, C++ and PHP, among others.
