Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has warned that advancements in AI capabilities will make redundant 40 per cent of tasks humans currently do. OpenAI is the startup behind one of the most advanced AI LLM models available in the market ChatGPT-5. Sam Altman has been informing the tech industry and other people in general regularly about the advancements in AI’s computational abilities. Interestingly, at the launch of his company’s latest AI model ChatGPT-5 this year. He said that after using ChatGPT-5 he will never use any other AI model. This was a way of telling how advanced ChatGPT-5 is.

Although Sam usually does not make controversial headline-worthy things about AI. Yet in an interview with the German Newspaper Die Welt he said that around 40 per cent of tasks that humans currently do will be performed by AI. This will be due to the advancements in AGI models and task-performing capabilities of LLM models. During the interview, Sam talked about other things too, like advancements in AGI and job losses due to AI.

AGI and Superintelligence!

Upon being asked about the superintelligence and AGIs. Sam replied AGI will be “smarter than humans in all aspects”. Moreover, ChatGPT-5 is already smarter than me and most people claimed Sam. AGI may arrive before the end of the decade. “If we don’t have models [by 2030] that are extraordinarily capable and do things that we ourselves cannot do, I’d be very surprised,” he added.

Job Losses due to AI?

The interviewer, Jan Philipp Burgard, also asked Altman what percentage of today’s jobs are likely to disappear in the foreseeable future. Sam Altman replied that he thinks it is useful to talk “about the percentage of tasks, not the percentage of jobs. I can easily imagine a world where 30, 40 per cent of the tasks that happen in the economy today get done by AI in the not very distant future.”

In conclusion, AI is rapidly evolving and changing the world as we know it. The Tech industry is reeling with Mass layoffs due to several jobs being automated by AI chatbots. Therefore, we need to be even more careful about the true potential of AI. Individuals who are starting their careers should be aware of upcoming in-demand jobs and skills.

Additionally, the arrival of AGI is one event that will truly shape the relationship of humans with artificial intelligence.
