OnePlus is all set to debut its first foldable smartphone—the OnePlus Open. The launch is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on October 19 (Thursday). The brand is partnering with its parent company, Oppo, to develop this phone. Oppo will also introduce it as the Oppo Find N3 in select regions. A new video offers a detailed look at the device’s main display, crease, and hinge technology before the launch event.
OnePlus Open will globally debut in India at a Mumbai launch event this week. This phone might offer a more competitive price point than the popular Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. It’s also slated to be the priciest OnePlus smartphone thus far. Additionally, OnePlus will host pop-up events in various Indian cities to present the device.
OnePlus Open is being manufactured at its factory based in Shenzhen, China. The company invited YouTuber Michael Fisher to the manufacturing hub. It is expected to feature a shallower crease than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 or Google Pixel Fold.
OnePlus Open, that is Oppo Find N3…
Oppo’s first foldable, Oppo Find N, has had a nearly imperceptible crease in the past, but it now employs a hinge with only 69 parts, reduced from the 100 parts in the OPPO Find N2. To decrease weight, lighter alloys are being used, making the hinge weigh just 13 grams. The video also flaunts several durability tests, including drop, twist, and bend tests that the phone must pass before entering production.
While specific details about the phone’s IP rating weren’t disclosed, the OnePlus Open may offer some form of water protection, as the video depicted the phone undergoing a series of waterproofing tests. Rest specifications aren’t official yet but with the release date in two days, it would be better to wait.
