OnePlus 12 officially arrives in China on December 5 and as is usually the case, OnePlus has started drip-feeding specs of the OnePlus 11-successor to build hype. The latest reveal focuses on two aspects— display and charging. Right out of the gate, the OnePlus 12 is set to bring back wireless charging, a feature which was dropped from the OnePlus 11, possibly to cut cost. The other big highlight is that the OnePlus 12 will work flawlessly in rain, thanks to OnePlus’s in-house “rainwater touch” feature previously seen on the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro.
The wireless charging bit is interesting because that’s something missing on the OnePlus Open as well. OnePlus started giving wireless charging starting from the OnePlus 8 Pro, but the OnePlus 11 broke that trend, and it was called out for it by critics. Relatively lower pricing saved the day for OnePlus but the OnePlus Open did not have such luxury. With the OnePlus 12, wireless charging is making a comeback which while it is fantastic also raises concerns about probable pricing.
And it’s not just about wireless charging. The OnePlus 12 is shaping to be a high-end flagship in other areas, too. The display for instance appears to be top-notch. It is sourced from BOE and confirmed to offer a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, which is unheard of at the time of writing. Only the Xiaomi 14 Pro stands a chance, and that too, tops out at 4,000 nits. If that wasn’t enough, OnePlus has put its rainwater touch technology into the panel and so, users will be able to get smooth touch responses in rain.
The other big highlight will be the chip. The OnePlus 12 is confirmed to pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and now, it has been confirmed to also come with up to 24GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. In all probability, the phone should run Android 14 with ColorOS in China (global variant should be based on OxygenOS).
Last but not the least, the OnePlus 12 is also set to come with flagship cameras, though, borrowed from the OnePlus Open.
