Nothing Phone 2a Plus launched: 50MP front camera, fast charging,and starting price of Rs 27,999

Just four months after the release of the Phone (2a), Nothing is back with its improved version – the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus.

Just four months after the release of the Phone (2a), Nothing is back with its improved version – the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus. This new phone offers significant performance upgrades, an improved selfie camera, and a refreshed design.

“Following the success of Phone (2a), which was a breath of fresh air in its market segment and became our best-selling smartphone, we’re thrilled to introduce Phone (2a) Plus. This upgraded variant features a world-exclusive processor, an improved front camera, and a new metallic design. With Phone (3) launching in 2025, Phone (2a) Plus is for those who are excited about Phone (2a) but are seeking even higher performance,” said Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing.

Performance upgrades

The Phone (2a) Plus is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7350 Pro 5G processor. This chipset, built on TSMC’s 4 nm Gen 2 technology, features 8 cores running up to 3.0 GHz, delivering nearly 10% faster CPU performance compared to the Phone (2a). Coupled with an ARM Mali-G610 MC4 GPU clocked at 1.3 GHz, gamers can expect 30% improved performance. The device also benefits from Nothing’s Smart Clean Technology, NTFS optimizations, and a RAM Booster, ensuring efficient multitasking and rapid file transfers.

Camera improvements

The Phone (2a) Plus introduces a revamped camera system, featuring a triple 50 MP setup. The new 50 MP front camera supports 4K video recording at 30 FPS, a significant upgrade from the previous 32 MP sensor. The main camera includes a 50 MP sensor with a f/1.88 lens, an ultra-wide 50 MP sensor with a 114º field of view, and enhanced low-light performance with Optical Image Stabilization, Electronic Image Stabilization, and Action Mode. Advanced features like TrueLens Engine, Ultra XDR, Motion Capture, and AI Portrait Optimiser further enhance photography capabilities.

Design and display

The Phone (2a) Plus features two new metallic colour options- Metallic Grey and an updated Black. The phone sports a FHD+ 6.7” AMOLED display with 1300 nits peak brightness, and a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate. The device maintains a screen-to-body ratio with thin 2.1 mm bezels and integrates Nothing’s iconic Glyph Interface on the back.

Battery life and charging

Equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery, the Phone (2a) Plus supports rapid 50W Fast Charging, capable of providing a full day’s power in under 20 minutes which is nearly 10% faster than its predecessor. The device can sustain up to two days of use on a single charge and retains over 90% capacity even after 1,000 charging cycles, claims company.

Software features

Nothing has used recycled materials such as aluminum, tin, copper foil, and plastic in the making of the phone. The device comes with Android 14 out of the box and offers three years of software updates and four years of security updates. New features in Nothing OS 2.6 include functional widgets and the News Reporter Widget, which provides AI-curated daily news summaries.

Availability and pricing

The Phone (2a) Plus will be available in two models: the 8GB RAM with 256GB storage variant priced at Rs 27,999, and the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage model priced at Rs 29,999. Special launch offers reduce the prices to Rs 25,999 and Rs 27,999 respectively with select bank discounts. The device will first be available for purchase at Nothing Store Soho, London, starting 11:00 AM BST on August 3, with sales in India commencing on August 7 through Flipkart, Croma, Vijay Sales, and other retail partners.
