Nikon Corporation has announced the launch of the Nikon ZR, a full-frame sensor cinema camera developed in collaboration with RED Digital Cinema. The ZR becomes the smallest and lightest model in the Z CINEMA lineup, aimed at filmmakers, production houses, and independent creators.

Alongside the ZR, RED Digital Cinema has launched the V-RAPTOR XE, a streamlined version of the V-RAPTOR X, offering 8K global shutter performance for independent creators. Nikon has also introduced the ME-D10 shotgun microphone, designed to work seamlessly with the ZR’s digital accessory shoe.

The ZR is positioned to expand the Z CINEMA lineup with a balance of portability and professional-grade features. Nikon stated it will continue to enhance its imaging ecosystem through its partnership with RED, offering solutions that address the needs of both large-scale productions and independent filmmakers.

Nikon ZR R3D NE Feature:

The ZR introduces R3D NE, a new recording format based on RED’s R3D RAW codec, developed exclusively for Nikon. It supports internal 12-bit RAW recording up to 6K/59.94p and 4K/119.88p, alongside two native ISO sensitivities—ISO 800 and ISO 6400—delivering a 15+ stop dynamic range. The camera also supports Log3G10 and REDWideGamutRGB, allowing accurate color matching with RED cinema cameras.

Nikon ZR Audio Features:

Nikon has integrated audio technology as a key feature, making the ZR the world’s first camera to support 32-bit float audio recording with both built-in and external microphones. The in-body mic leverages Nokia’s OZO Audio and offers five pickup patterns, including stereo and directional modes, for a wide range of production needs.Ni

ZR Display Features:

For monitoring, the ZR features a 4.0-inch, 3070k-dot display with 1000-nit brightness and full DCI-P3 coverage, eliminating the necessity for an external monitor in most setups. Autofocus is powered by Nikon’s EXPEED 7 engine and deep learning-based AI, supporting nine subject types and enhanced tracking accuracy. In addition, 5-axis in-body stabilization ensures steady handheld shooting.

Nikon ZR Design:

The body, weighing about 540 g, is designed for fanless heat dissipation, allowing continuous 6K recording for up to 125 minutes. Connectivity includes LUT monitoring, Frame.io Camera to Cloud transfer, and a new digital accessory shoe enabling advanced communication and power delivery for compatible accessories.

Nikon ZR Price:

The Nikon ZR camera body will be available to order from 16th October 2025 at a price of Rs. 1,86,995. Moreover it will be3 available across all India outlets of Nikon.
