Elon Musk is planning to charge a small amount of fee to new X users for using the microblogging site. Musk is expected to explain that the charging fee may curb the bot problem.

What’s changed?

Reportedly, an X post was made about the changes on the website. It is believed that Musk responded by saying that charging a small amount of fee to new accounts was the “only way” to stop the “onslaught of bots”.

Furthermore, “Current AI (all troll farms) can pass ‘Are you a bot’ with ease,” Musk explained. Musk is expected to have referred to CAPTCHA. In addition, Musk had also responded to another user highlighting that after three months the new accounts would be able to post without paying a fee.

What lies ahead?

It is believed that in 2022 Elon Musk took over X in a $44 billion deal. However, the company’s war on advertisers is expected to have hurt X’s revenue prospect. With insights from recent data by Sensor Tower, about 75 of the top 100 US advertisers on X from October 2022  do not spend ad budget on the platform.

Earlier in April, ‘Grok’, which is  Musk’s AI company xAI’s chatbot, was made available to its premium X users who paid $8 per month. Furthermore, X is expected to make Grok available to all users to compose posts, as per insights from a report by Fortune.
