Indian billionaire businessman Harsh Goenka has publicly praised Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella for his calm and diplomatic response to a public jab from Elon Musk on X. Goenka called Nadella’s reaction a “masterclass in leadership” for its focus on collaboration and learning.
The incident began on August 7, when Elon Musk posted a comment on X stating, “OpenAI is going to eat Microsoft alive.” The post on X came shortly after Microsoft announced the rollout of GPT-5 across its products, a model which Nadella had previously hailed as “the most capable model yet.”
Nadella extended olive branch instead of a feud
Instead of engaging in a public feud, though, Nadella responded with a positive and forward-looking message. He wrote, “People have been trying for 50 years and that’s the fun of it! Each day you learn something new, and innovate, partner, and compete. Excited for Grok 4 on Azure and looking forward to Grok 5.”
Nadella’s response not only acknowledged the competitive landscape but also extended an olive branch to Musk, mentioning his company’s AI models.
Goenka, the chairman of the RPG Group, shared Nadella’s reply on X, highlighting it as an example of a mature leader’s response. “What a masterclass from Satya Nadella– turning Elon’s jab into a celebration of learning, innovation, and partnership. A reminder that the reaction of a mature leader should be to elevate the conversation,” wrote Goenka on his X post.
The exchange quickly went viral, with many users online applauding Nadella’s composed demeanour and leadership style, and celebrating his Indian heritage as a source of pride.
