Microsoft recently announced an end of support date for Edge web browser on Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1. Support for Microsoft Edge WebView2 has also been ended by the company for both operating systems. WebView 2 is a developer control in applications for embedding web content. On January 10 2023, both the operating systems will end support for Edge, mentioned in a blogpost. Moreover, Chrome is also ending support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
It was mentioned in a blogpost that said “We acknowledge that this may not be easy for some developers to do, however ending support for these operating systems will help keep end users safe from potential security threats and risks as both operating systems go out of support on January 10th, 2023.”
It is believed by the executives at Microsoft that it will help to grow Bing search and their advertising businesses. WeChat, which is an all-in-one application of Tencent is what the tech giants aspires to acquire. It is not clear if the company will ever release such an application though.
Polls feature was introduced by the tech giant last month that offers users to create polls right with the Microsoft Forms app, which ultimately makes meetings on Teams more engaging. In order to post a poll on Teams channel or receive feedback instantly in a chat, one needs to go to the bottom of the teams windows, select Forms and then add questions and answers option.
Users have to upgrade to Windows10 or Windows 11 now in order to use the browser. Microsoft Edge browser version109 and Webview2 runtime version 109 however will be the last versions to support the operating systems. It means that the new features which include new features, future security updates, bug fixes will not be received on those versions.
