Amidst the rising artificial intelligence (AI) powered scams, a UK company has come up with an AI chatbot that claims to scam the scammer. Yes, that’s what Virgin Media 02, a UK company is offering. The company said that their new AI model can identify potential scam/spam calls and divert them from scamming you. Last week, Virgin Media 02 introduced Daisy, an AI grandmother capable of scamming scammers. Let’s have a detailed look at how the product works!
Meet Daisy: Your AI grandmother
According toVirgin Media 02, Daisy uses the process of ‘scambaiting’. This is a process when the target realizes that they are being scammed and decides to play along. The main aim is to waste the time of the scammers. However, this method could be time taking. So, in order to come up with a quick solution with no need for human intervention, Daisy comes into action.
So, how does Daisy exactly work? AI granny’s main aim is to keep the fraudster engaged by having a conversation with them. The company further highlighted that the AI Granny’s mission is to waste as much of their time as possible with ‘human-like rambling chat’ to keep them away from real people while.
Daisy uses a combination of different AI models, to listen and respond to the spam/scam calls instantly. This helps to create a human-like natural conversation and makes it hard for scammers to identify it as an AI. Daisy can talk with the fraudsters or scammers for at least 40 minutes.
The future ahead
Furthermore, the company has also said that there is a need for users to stay vigilant and careful of other AI-powered scams as the UK has been facing a fraud epidemic. As reported by IPX, a financial analysis firm, almost 1 in 3 Americans have been the victim of a scam in the past year, with an average loss of $1,600 a person.
Another report from The Federal Trade showcased that UK based consumers faced more than $10 billion in losses last year due to online scams. So, in order to avoid all these, Daisy will be using scambaiting to protect you from online scams. However, in spite of all the AI safety procedures it is always advisable to avoid suspicious calls to stay safe. Also, in case you get scammed, report to the cybersecurity team as soon as possible.
