Like Nokia, Motorola also wants to play nostalgia card, may bring back Moto Razr – What we know so far

Looking to mint on the nostalgia factor just like Nokia did with Nokia 3310 and Nokia 8810 ‘Banana phone’, Lenovo wants to jump on the ‘feels-train’ as well. Lenovo, who owns Motorola has plans to relaunch the iconic Moto Razr as a smartphone in the market.

On the day when the Nokia was revamped and relaunched by HMD Global, along with decent smartphones, the company launched Nokia 3310. A revamped version of the classic with the same. They did a similar thing at Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona when they announced the comeback of the ‘Banana Phone’, the Nokia 8810. Looking to mint on the nostalgia factor, Lenovo wants to jump on the ‘feels-train’ as well. Lenovo, who owns Motorola has plans to relaunch the iconic Moto Razr as a smartphone in the market.

Hints about the Moto Razr were dropped at the MWC 2018 in Barcelona by CEO of Lenovo Yang Yuanqing. As per the reports of TechRadar, Yuanqing said that the company could launch the Moto Razr as a smartphone which will have a foldable screen. Yuanqing also stated that the Moto Razr line up will be developed and realised, ‘very soon.’ To put things into perspective, Moto may soon come out with a completely new and revamped Moto Razr in the near future.

While Nokia’s aim is to not make any major changes in the old phone and launch a new version of it, Lenovo might take a different stance altogether. With Moto Razr, the company wants to have a completely new direction and have a foldable screen phone rather than the conventional flip phone format. Keeping in mind the comments from Lenovo CEO, Moto Razr falls in line with the design cues from some of the other manufacturers like Samsung, ZTE and Huawei. Moto Razr may have a wrap-around display.

Back in the day, Moto Razr was one of the most loved phones in the market. Ever since its launch, Motorola sold as many as 130 million units of the phone. In 2004, when the phone was launched, it had a whopping price tag of $600 or close to Rs 40,000. What worked for the Moto Razr was a unique form factor of a flip phone, only three years later, in 2007, Steve Jobs came out with Apple iPhone and changed the entire way we look at mobile phones.

With a big change, Moto would definitely like to play the ‘nostalgia’ card and bring another unique phone with new Moto Razr.
