Reliance Jio has silently launched the JioPhone Prima 2 4G, second-generation version of last year’s JioPhone Prima 4G. The “smart” feature phone is listed on e-commerce website Amazon India confirming the design, key specifications, and even more importantly, the price of JioPhone Prima 2. Moreover, the sale is also live. None of Jio’s core portals, Reliance Digital or JioMart, have listed the product at the time of writing, but it should be coming soon.
The big takeaway from the Amazon listing is that the JioPhone Prima 2 is “made with Qualcomm Technologies.” The name of the underlying processor is a mystery but surely, it looks like it would be a Snapdragon. We will update this story once we have more clarity. Regardless, the Jio-Qualcomm duo has been working to make next-generation connectivity (4G and 5G) more accessible to India’s masses and the JioPhone Prima 2 seems to be a result of that partnership.
JioPhone Prima 2: Price
Amazon is currently selling the JioPhone Prima 2 at a price of Rs 2,799. That’s Rs 200 more than what the original JioPhone Prima cost at launch. Even today, it is available for Rs 2,599 on Jio’s website.

The JioPhone Prima 2 4G is an affordable mobile phone— keypad feature phone— but because it’s based on Kai OS (version 2.5.3), which is a fork of Firefox OS, it can connect to the internet and supports a bunch of “smart” features including WhatsApp messaging, YouTube video playback, and UPI (short for Unified Payments Interface).
Jio has put its extensive catalogue of homegrown apps including JioTV, JioCinema and JioSaavn for entertainment, JioNews for news, and JioPay for facilitating UPI payments. Direct video calling is another feature being touted since the JioPhone Prima 2 apparently allows for conducting video calls without any video app. It supports up to 23 languages and even has access to the Google Assistant.
Speaking of specs, the JioPhone Prima 2 4G has a 2.4-inch colour display and 0.512GB of RAM, same as the JioPhone Prima. It has 4GB of internal storage which is expandable by another 128GB. The battery is slightly bigger than on the original—2,000mAh versus 1,800mAh. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The feature phone has cameras on both the front as well as on the rear.
JioPhone Prima 2 4G is a Jio SIM-locked phone, meaning it only works with a Jio SIM card. Jio offers several JioPhone Prima exclusive plans starting as low as Rs 75.
