JioCinema, the official streaming platform for the IPL, concluded the 2024 season with a record-breaking 2,600 crore views, marking a 53 percent increase from the previous year, the Viacom 18-owned OTT platform said on Thursday. Over the season, JioCinema amassed more than 35,000 crore minutes of “watch-time,” it added.
The platform saw substantial growth throughout the season, starting with an impressive opening night that attracted over 11.3 crore viewers—a 51 percent rise from the 2023 opener. On the first day alone, JioCinema registered 59 crore video views, resulting in 660 crore minutes of watch-time. Overall, JioCinema’s reach expanded by 38 percent, ending the season with over 62 crore viewers.
JioCinema said its enhanced features, including 12 language feeds, 4K viewing, multi-cam views, and immersive experiences through AR/VR and 360-degree viewing, contributed to increased viewer retention. The average time spent per viewer rose to 75 minutes, up from 60 minutes last season. The connected TV audience also saw significant growth, further boosting engagement.
Building on this momentum, JioCinema is gearing up to deliver comprehensive coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, it added. Coverage will include content tailored for Indian audiences, highlighting must-watch events, Indian athletes to follow, historic Olympic performances, and potential landmarks for Indian competitors in Paris.
JioCinema is pulling no punches when it comes to attracting new users and making the service more lucrative for the existing subscribers. JioCinema premium plan prices was recently slashed to as low as Re 1 per day for a monthly plan and less than Re 1 per day for the 12-month annual plan. The JioCinema premium plan is now available for just Rs 29 per month. Previously, the same plan cost Rs 99 per month. Likewise, the annual JioCinema Premium plan is available for Rs 299, down from Rs 999 earlier. Sports content, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, remain free under the platform’s ad-supported model though.
