Reliance Jio, after bringing several telecom-related revolutions in India, has now introduced its first Made in India smartglass dubbed as JioGlass. The smartwear was displayed at the Jio stall during the India Mobile Congress event 2023. 

The new JioGlass is a mixed-reality headset which means it blends the both virtual and real world to offer a more immersive experience. It uses a combination of both Augmented reality and Virtual reality to offer the best of both worlds.

The new JioGlass is made in India. The product has been developed by Tesseract- a mixed-reality company that develops AR and VR products and platforms. This company was acquired by Reliance Industries in 2019. 

JioGlass is a lightweight smartglass with a 100-inch FHD micro-led 3D display, and Voice and Gaze interaction. With dimensions of 174mm in length, 155mm in width, and 38mm in height when open, the JioGlass is designed to be compact and portable. It weighs just 69 grams without the cable and visor, making it easy to carry and wear for extended periods.

You can seamlessly connect any device, be it your smartphone, laptop, gaming console, or any other gadget with a Type-C display output, to your JioGlass AR smart glasses and screencast the content on a 100-inch virtual screen. It lets

you convert your smartphone into a multifunctional controller so that you can point, scroll, and select with ease, all at your fingertips. JioGlass enables you to seamlessly integrate up to three virtual screens into your workflow.

The JioGlass comes with features like Immersive Mode, AR Cast, Virtual Desktop Monitor, and Virtual PC. Additionally, the device comes with magnetic prescription frames compatible with lens prescriptions ranging from -1.5 to -5, which can be fitted for a personalised and comfortable viewing experience. The JioGlass also features an intuitive control system, with a trackpad that allows users to easily adjust volume by swiping left and control brightness by swiping right.

The JioGlass is a cutting-edge mixed-reality device that seamlessly integrates with a wide range of devices, including Android and iOS phones and tablets, as well as Windows and Mac laptops. Its performance features include lightning-fast 5-second boot-up and 1-second resume times, ensuring a seamless user experience. With a substantial 4-hour runtime in 3D mode, powered by a 4000mAh battery, users can enjoy extended periods of immersive content.

Equipped with a range of sensors, the JioGlass includes a proximity sensor to enhance interaction and a 9-axis IMU sensor for precise head tracking and motion sensing. These features contribute to a seamless and responsive user experience.

The price and availability of the device are unknown at the time. Tesseract is running an Early Access Programme on its website for JioGlass Enterprise. “The JioGlass Enterprise Early Access Program offers a prelaunch release of JioGlass, Enterprise XR App Suite and Development Kit to revolutionize businesses with the power of XR,” says the company.
