Telecom service providers Airtel and Vi faced prolonged outages today. Multiple users reported outages across different areas, including Delhi NCR and Mumbai. Most of the reported outages reported by users were of phone calls on mobile. These outages were reported by Downdetector.
Areas Affected
A map of affected areas on Downdetector showed Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Guwahati and Madurai also in the red, meaning much higher than usual complaints from across all corners of the country. Cities in central idea were no different on this count, as of 6 pm, Monday, August 18.
“We are currently experiencing a network outage, our team is actively working to resolve the issue and restore services promptly. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. Thanks, Team Airtel,” the company said on X in reply to the post that claimed service outage.
“All Jio-to-Jio calls and calls from Jio to other non-impacted networks have been working seamlessly. The only problem observed was in calls made by Jio numbers to a specific impacted network customers, due to downtime on that network’s end. This did not affect Jio customers calling within the Jio network or connecting to any other networks. We assure our customers that the Jio network continues to perform optimally, and services remain fully available,” Jio said in a statement.
Users Complaints
“Ported from Jio to Airtel due to internet issues, but facing even bigger problems now. Not able to use data while on calls & no proper response from customer care. Really disappointing!” an X user complained. Another user said “@Airtel_Presence @airtelindia services are completely down. Unable to make or receive calls and even messages are not working. This is causing serious inconvenience. Please resolve the network outage immediately and confirm ETA for restoration,” said a user.
Some highlighted concerns about data deductions on 4G networks despite having 5G plans, and criticized the network infrastructure that limits seamless connectivity.
Airteldown is trending on ‘X’ in India for quite some time. While the company was working to resolve the issue this problem was faced by people using other telecom operators like Jio and VI. Which makes it seem that this is just not limited to Airtel.
“Is Airtel Service down in Delhi? I am facing the issue since last 1 hour. On all my airtel numbers in the family,” wrote a third.
