Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, unveiled the latest version of its core artificial intelligence model, Grok 4, during a livestream held Wednesday evening. Though the event kicked off about an hour late, Musk and the xAI team presented a host of new features, including multimodal capabilities, enhanced reasoning speed, a redesigned user interface, and improved voice interaction.
According to xAI, Grok 4 outperforms existing models like GPT-3 and Gemini 2.5 Pro across key performance benchmarks. Musk boldly stated that Grok 4 surpasses PhD-level expertise across all academic disciplines—“without exception.”
“With respect to academic questions, Grok 4 is better than PhD level in every subject, no exceptions,” said Elon Musk during a livestream Wednesday night. “At times, it may lack common sense, and it has not yet invented new technologies or discovered new physics, but that is just a matter of time.”

Grok 4 has been trained on xAI’s Colossus supercomputer for advanced, scientist-grade reasoning.
The model promises improved logical reasoning and text generation It also comes with Grok 4 Code, a specialized variant designed to write, debug, and explain code more efficiently.
This feature is similar to tools like GitHub Copilot or GPT-4 Code Interpreter. Musk says you can just copy and paste your entire source code into the query box, and Grok 4 will handle the rest.
Grok 4 was developed using xAI’s powerful Colossus supercomputer, engineered to support high-level scientific reasoning and complex problem-solving. The model boasts enhanced capabilities in logical analysis and natural language generation.
A notable addition is Grok 4 Code—a dedicated version tailored for programming tasks. It’s designed to write, debug, and explain code with greater accuracy and speed, offering functionality comparable to tools like GitHub Copilot or GPT-4’s Code Interpreter.
According to Elon Musk, users can simply paste an entire codebase into the input field, and Grok 4 will take care of everything from diagnostics to solutions.
n addition to unveiling Grok 4 and its high-powered counterpart Grok 4 Heavy, xAI introduced its priciest subscription tier to date — SuperGrok Heavy, priced at $300 per month. This premium plan grants users early access to Grok 4 Heavy along with priority previews of upcoming features.
The subscription mirrors the elite plans available from other AI giants like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. However, with this launch, xAI now claims the title of offering the most expensive AI subscription package among leading providers.
