Apple is finally bringing the in-screen face ID system with the iPhone 18 series devices next year. According to a leak the Cupertino Tech Giant is prepping and testing an in-display Face ID system using ”spliced micro transparent glass”.
A leaker on Chinese Social Platform Weibo has claimed that Apple is testing the in-Display system. the individual named ”smart pikachu” has made this claims on Weibo. He also says that the company is testing the method that allows its TrueDepth system’s infrared sensors to pass through the display without distortion. Lastly this tipster has made claims that Apple has already notified suppliers to accelerate the supply chain for the potential new technology.
Which iPhone 18 models will have this?
Unfortunately the tipster has not mentioned which device of the iPhone 18 lineup will have this in-display face technology. Since this in-display technology will reduce the dynamic Island on the iPhones dramatically therefore some reports suggest it could be reserved for the Pro models. This change will also result in a similarity of iPhones to other Android flagships.
What do other reports say about this?
A report by The Information earlier this year also claimed that the iPhone 18 Pro models will not come with a Dynamic Island and instead feature a pinhole cut-out for the camera in the upper-left corner of the display. However, other leaks have suggested that the Dynamic Island is likely to stay on iPhones, although its size may be reduced.
Analyst Ross Young has previously stated that iPhone 18 Pro models could come with under-display Face ID, but that the Dynamic Island may not be fully discarded. Meanwhile, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has noted that the iPhone 18 series could feature a slimmer Dynamic Island rather than a fully under-display Face ID system.
iPhone 18 expected launch price
Industry watchers believe Apple will try to maintain stability amid rising manufacturing costs and global tariffs. The iPhone 17 base model launched at $799, while the iPhone 17 Pro started at $1,099, with the Pro Max holding steady at $1,199. Insiders predict that the iPhone 18 Pro will likely retain the same starting price, while the entry-level models could see minor adjustments depending on its delayed 2027 release.
