Apple first added the Camera Control button to the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max in 2024, aiming to replicate the functionality of physical controls on professional cameras. However, new reports suggest that the company may discontinue this feature with the release of the iPhone 18.
According to a post on Weibo from leaker OvO OvO OvO OvO, previously known as OvO Baby Sauce OvO (source in Chinese), Apple has reportedly told its suppliers to halt orders for parts related to the Camera Control button. The move is said to stem from the feature’s limited user adoption, with Apple aiming to reduce manufacturing expenses by eliminating it.
Apple May Shake Things Up by Skipping the iPhone 18 in 2026:
Korean publication ET News reports that Apple might skip releasing a standard iPhone 18 in 2026. Instead, the company is rumored to introduce a lower-cost iPhone 17e in the first half of that year, while saving its flagship lineup for the latter half. The premium range is expected to consist of the iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
That doesn’t mean Apple plans to eliminate the base model altogether. Rather, the strategy appears to involve pushing it back by a year. If this roadmap holds true, Apple could unveil both the iPhone 18 and a budget-friendly 18e in early 2027, followed by the higher-end models later in the same year.
