Apple is preparing to unveil its much-awaited iPhone 17 series in September 2025, introducing a fresh addition to the lineup—the iPhone 17 Air—which will take the place of the traditional Plus model. Apple is anticipated to introduce the iPhone 17 lineup with four different models reportedly in the pipeline — the standard iPhone 17, a slimmer iPhone 17 Air, and the high-end iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. For many years, Apple has regularly unveiled its new iPhones during the early part of September. The entire iPhone 17 series is expected to follow this pattern, except for the iPhone 17E, which, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and a report from The Information, might launch in early 2026.
iPhone 17 Pro camera:
24MP Front Camera for All Models:
All four iPhone 17 variants are expected to come equipped with an enhanced 24-megapixel selfie camera — a significant leap from the 12-megapixel front cameras found on the current iPhone 16 lineup.
48MP Telephoto Lens on Pro Models:
The iPhone 17 Pro models are rumored to receive a major camera boost with a 48-megapixel Telephoto lens, replacing the 12-megapixel version used in the iPhone 16 Pro series.
iPhone 17 Pro design:
Aluminum Build:
The iPhone 17 Pro series is expected to switch to an aluminum chassis, moving away from the titanium frames used in the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro, and the stainless steel bodies featured in the iPhone X through iPhone 14 Pro models. The rear panel is also said to introduce a fresh “hybrid” look, combining both aluminum and glass elements.
Redesigned Camera Module:
Apple is reportedly giving the iPhone 17 Pro a prominent rectangular camera housing with softened corners. Despite the new shape, the familiar triangular layout of the rear lenses is expected to remain unchanged.
iPhone 17 Pro performance:
Next-Gen A19 Pro Chipset:
The upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models are likely to be powered by Apple’s latest A19 Pro processor, which is expected to be built using TSMC’s advanced third-generation 3nm technology. As with previous upgrades, users can anticipate incremental improvements in speed and energy efficiency over the current iPhone lineup.
In-House Wi-Fi 7 Technology:
All four iPhone 17 variants are rumored to feature a custom-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip developed by Apple, replacing the Broadcom-supplied chips used in earlier models.
12GB RAM Upgrade:
Both the iPhone 17 Pro models and the iPhone 17 Air are expected to come equipped with 12GB of RAM — a step up from the 8GB found in all iPhone 16 models. This memory boost is likely to enhance multitasking capabilities and ensure smoother performance for Apple Intelligence features.
