Huawei, on Tuesday, launched the Mate XT Ultimate tri-fold smartphone globally after unveiling it in China last year. Launched in September 2024, the new Huawei Mate XT features a unique design with two hinges, one folding inward and the other outward, allowing the phone to go from a compact smartphone to a large tablet-like display.
When fully unfolded, the Mate XT offers a 10.2-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 3,184 x 2,232 pixels and a 16:11 aspect ratio, providing a large viewing area. Despite the tri-folding mechanism, the Mate XT Ultimate has a slim profile measuring 12.8mm in thickness when folded and weighing approximately 298 grams.
While the processor of the global variant has not been specified yet, China’s variant is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9010 5G processor, coupled with 16GB of RAM, and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB variants.
The Mate XT Ultra’s camera system features a 50-megapixel main sensor with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.2 to f/4.0, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto lens offering 5.5x optical zoom. For selfies and video calls, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera sits under the display. The smartphone runs on Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4.2.
Battery life is supported by a 5,600mAh battery despite a large display and complex folding mechanism. It supports 66W wired fast charging, 50W wireless charging and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. About the connectivity, the Mate XT includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port. It also features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for secure authentication. The phone is available in Black and Red colour options.
