Just when you thought the iPhone 16 launch was the biggest tech news this September, Huawei swoops in with a game-changing announcement. The Chinese tech giant plans to reveal its first-ever tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT, just hours after Apple’s big iPhone 16 reveal on September 9. Huawei is clearly looking to steal some of the spotlight from its US rival, and it might just pull it off.
Huawei versus Apple
The Mate XT is part of Huawei’s prestigious Ultimate Design brand, the successor to the now-defunct Huawei-Porsche Design partnership. Teasers for the Mate XT have been circulating for weeks, and the hype is real. This isn’t just another foldable; it’s Huawei’s first tri-fold device, boasting a massive 10-inch screen when fully unfolded. The Mate series has always been about pushing boundaries, and the Mate XT is no exception. Huawei pioneered foldable phones with the Mate X back in 2019, and it’s set to redefine the category once again with this revolutionary design.
According to Richard Yu, head of Huawei’s consumer and automotive technology group, the Mate XT is a “leading, innovative, and disruptive product” that has been five years in the making. Yu described the Mate XT as an “epoch-making product that others have thought of but cannot make,” turning what once seemed like science fiction into reality.
Huawei September 10 launch event
But Huawei isn’t stopping at just the Mate XT. It’s September 10 event, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Beijing time, will also feature other exciting product launches. Expect to see the Watch GT 5, Watch D2, and even a five-seater version of the Aito M9 electric vehicle. Huawei is clearly firing on all cylinders, aiming to prove that it’s still a force to be reckoned with in the tech world, despite the challenges it has faced from US sanctions.
As the tech world eagerly awaits Apple’s “Glowtime” iPhone 16 event, Huawei is gearing up to show that innovation isn’t just limited to Cupertino. With the Mate XT and its tri-fold design, Huawei is poised to make headlines and maybe even upstage the biggest smartphone launch of the year. We’ll see. Stay tuned for more updates.
