After Watch series 10 redesign rumours, Apple seems to be working on home accessories. As reported by MacRumors, Apple is working on a long-rumored home accessory in addition to the HomePod and Apple TV.
MacRumors seems to have identified a code. It looks like the code references a device with the identifier “HomeAccessory17,1,” which is a new identifier category. The name seems to be similar to the HomePod’s “AudioAccessory” identifier.
Apple to bring ‘Home Accessories’?
“Interestingly, the 17,1 in the identifier name suggests that this device may receive Apple’s upcoming A18 chip,” MacRumors explained. The A18 chip is the same chip that was reported earlier to be used in all four iPhone 16 models later this year. With the A18 chip, the HomeAccessory device could have the power for Apple Intelligence.
The code seems to highlight that this “home accessory” will be running a software variant of tvOS, similar to the HomePod. Earlier this year, MacRumors had found evidence of Apple’s work on homeOS, which could be the firmware running on this device.
In addition to this, the code is expected to reference two unreleased Apple TV models with the identifiers AppleTV14,4 and AppleTV14,5. Further rumors suggest that an updated Apple TV could launch in 2024.
The plans ahead
Furthermore, the new smart home display is expected to run on a version of tvOS. Additionally, earlier this year rumours suggested that Apple might be working on developing homeOS. It also suggested that homeOS could be a combination of tvOS and HomePod software.
This could potentially be a huge pivot in Apple’s ecosystem, which currently entails Apple TV and HomePod. The device could sport an LCD touchscreen similar to the Apple TV. This could eventually offer you multiple functionalities for a more seamless experience. It is also expected that Apple’s ‘Home Accesories,’ has the potential to be a valuable addition to the home accessory lineup. After facing security breaches in its iOS and macOS as reported by a research done by E.V.A. Information Security, Apple seems to be trying to be on the track by coming up with new product launches.
Furthermore, Apple is expected to announce new iPhones, iPads, and potentially other products in September, MacRumors highlighted. It looks like, if the rumours get true, the smart home display could help Apple expand its presence significantly.
