With Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) slated for a 2026 debut, cybersecurity analysts are forecasting a surge in malicious activity. Threat actors are likely to capitalize on the excitement by spreading counterfeit game installers, bogus beta access links, and fraudulent early access deals to deceive eager fans.
Although GTA V launched more than ten years ago, the Grand Theft Auto series continues to be a prime target for cyber threats—largely due to its expansive modding ecosystem and active online player base. According to Kaspersky, there were 4,456,499 instances where attackers used files masquerading as GTA-related content to attempt breaches.
In a recent report, Kaspersky researchers carried out a comprehensive investigation using 20 top games favored by Gen Z—including titles like GTA, NBA, FIFA, The Sims, and Genshin Impact—as key search terms. Spanning from the second quarter of 2024 to the first quarter of 2025, the study identified March 2025 as the most critical month, logging a staggering 1,842,370 attempted cyberattacks.

Grand Theft Auto V, the previous flagship title in the series, holds the distinction of being the world’s second best-selling video game. Its lasting popularity is driven in large part by the ongoing appeal of its dynamic online multiplayer experience, which keeps players engaged years after its debut.
The standard version of GTA 6 is anticipated to retail for about Rs 5,999 in India. Deluxe or collector’s editions may carry a price tag of around Rs 7,299 or more. On the international market, the game could be priced close to $100, roughly equivalent to Rs 9,000.
