GTA 6 is still over a year away rom us and yet, the updates related to its performance keep fans on the edge. The second trailer, which released earlier this year, revealed a lot of unknowns about this video game, including more light into the character of Jason and his relation with Lucia – the first female protagonist in a GTA game. While the official website now hosts a lot of materials to keep fans excited, information related to its performance credentials have emerged revealing a lot about this highly anticipated video game.
One of the newest ones is related to the frame rate of the gameplay. Previous GTA titles on consoles have been limited to 30 fps at launch. While the same was expected from GTA 6 on current-generation consoles, there’s now shocking new revelation. GTA 6 players are likely to experience a smoother 60 fps experience on one of the current-generation console and before you wonder, it is neither the Sony PS5 nor the Microsoft Xbox Series X.
GTA 6 in 60 fps: Which is that lucky console
That lucky console is the PlayStation 5 Pro – the beefed-up variant of the standard PS5 console.
Based on rumours from industry insiders, Sony’s PlayStation engineers are working with Rockstar Games to enable the game to run at 60 fps on the higher-end PS5 Pro. According to prominent leakster “Detective Seeds” on X, GTA 6 is “hitting 60fps while being optimised for the PS5 Pro on multiple graphical settings.” The new tech for the game is expected to be ready for release in May 2026.
This could be a major development in the gaming industry, considering how a desired gameplay element will be made exclusive to the higher-end PS5 Pro. Previously, Rockstar Games hasn’t favoured any of the gaming consoles while releasing its blockbuster title. GTA 5 (2013) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) were released in a standard 30 fps gameplay mode, with the 60 fps mode reserved for the PC release only.
With GTA 6 though, Sony seems to be interested in justifying the additionally cost to its PS5 Pro customers. Microsoft did a similar with Forza Horizon 5 by giving players the option to choose between ‘Quality’ and ‘Performance’.
Will there be GTA 6-themed PS5 Pro consoles?
The possibility is highly likely! If Rockstar Games can work with Sony to optimise the gameplay for its flagship gaming console, there is a possibility of a GTA 6-themed PS5 Pro releasing in the markets next year.
