Getting a virus on your desktop or laptop is one of the most irritating feelings ever. Apart from the dullness of a slow computer, there is a bigger risk of losing your personal data to hackers and cyber criminals. Cyber crime is one of the biggest issues in today’s world, where technology has taken a precedence over everything else. While it may help you in many aspects, there are many cons too, one of them being malware attacks on systems. The Information and Technology ministry, on February 21, launched anti-malware analysis centre which will facilitate free antivirus for personal computers and smartphones in India. IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad unveiled the new feature at Botnet Cleaning and Malware Analysis Centre. Prasad, at the centre, said that he wanted internet service providers to bring more customers on board this service, especially because it is free.
The project by the Indian government will cost Rs 90 crore and will be spread over a period of five years. CertIn, an Indian cybersecurity watchdog will be collection information on systems which are infected and send it to ISPs and banks. These organisations will then find the user and give him the link to the centre. The centre has been announced in the name ‘Cyber Swachhta Kendra’. It is there, that the user will be able to download anti-virus or anti-malware tools to disinfect their devices. CertIn Director General Sanjay Bahl had informed about the cost of the project and timeline.

Currently, on board, the system are 58 internet service providers and 13 banks in India. Ravi Shankar Prasad directed Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) to also set up National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC) by June. The government has approved Rs 900 crore for NCCC which will monitor and handle cyber attacks on Indian internet space in real time. Prasad, emphasising the importance of safety and security, said that PM Narendra Modi had compared cyber threat to bloodless war. He also said that cybersecurity is going to be a crucial factor in making India Digitally ‘Swachh’ and also digital growth, digital employment and digital commerce.
