Google is introducing a new photo-to-video tool that enables users to turn their images into short video clips using the advanced Veo 2 model. Similar to features found in apps like Gemini and YouTube, this function lets users apply creative prompts such as “Subtle movements” or “I’m feeling lucky” to convert chosen photos into videos.

Transform your pictures into mini movies with the new Photo-to-Video feature:

Google’s latest tool can automatically stitch together picks from your Photos library into bite-sized, six-second movies—complete with transitions and a soundtrack—no manual editing needed. It extends the generative magic Google showcased with Gemini back in July, and now, thanks to the Veo 2 model, that same tech is landing in Google Photos and YouTube Shorts to animate still shots into quick clips that fit today’s memory-sharing habits.

“Starting today, we’re bringing a similar photo-to-video feature (powered by Veo 2) to Google Photos, making it easier than ever for you to create fun, short videos from the photos already saved in your gallery. Imagine that perfect selfie with friends from a few years ago suddenly coming to life with subtle movements, or a cherished photo of your parent as a child smiling back at you,” Google said in a statement.

Google Photos is also launching a new Remix feature:

Alongside this, Google Photos is also launching a new Remix feature, powered by the Imagen AI engine. This tool gives users the ability to instantly restyle any image from their gallery, offering quick and creative transformations.

The Remix option will be available in the coming weeks for Android and iOS users. To promote responsible AI use, all modified content will be tagged with a SynthID digital watermark.

“Pick a photo from your gallery and choose your favorite style to easily transform pictures right in your gallery into these kinds of images in seconds to share with your friends and family,” Google says in its post. This feature is also limited to Photos in the US and coming to Android and iOS devices in the next few weeks.
