Google may soon have an answer to why some Drive users are seeing their files go missing. The search engine giant has confirmed that it is investigating into the issue affecting some Drive for desktop users where files are not visible.

According to 9to5google report, Google Drive users are experiencing a significant issue where files, spanning months or even years, are mysteriously disappearing from their accounts. This problem has raised concerns, especially for business users who rely on Google Drive for data storage.

Google has officially acknowledged the issue, attributing it to the Drive for Desktop app, specifically affecting versions 84.0.0.0 through 84.0.4.0. Google is actively investigating and says that the problem appears to be related to versions 84.0.0.0 to 84.0.4.0 of the Drive for desktop app. Google has advised affected users not to disconnect their accounts from the app and to avoid deleting or moving data from the “DriveFS” folder on their machines.

The “DriveFS” folder is located under AppData\Local\Google\DriveFS on Windows and Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS on macOS.

Google has not yet provided a timeline for when a fix will be available. However, the company has stated that it is working “urgently” to resolve the issue. In the meantime, affected users can try the following workarounds- Use the Google Drive website to access files. You can also install an older version of the Drive for desktop app.
