Elon Musk is back again with another statement stating that Tesla’s robot Optimus needs to be good looking. He expects Optimus to be a friend of yours.
During the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Musk discussed Tesla’s ambitions for its humanoid robot. It looks like Elon Musk wants you to think of Tesla’s Optimus robot as a friend.
Is Optimus your friend?
“I think people will start to regard their personal Optimus robot as sort of a friend,” Elon Musk said. He also said that Optimus could be similar to the characters from pop culture like Star Wars’ robot R2-D2.
Maybe Musk wants to make Optimus look good like a human. However, Musk explained that he was joking about the ‘robots should be handsome’ part. All he wanted was to just make the robot ‘good looking,’ and not make them look like humans.
Musk plans to make Optimus quite similar to a personal assistant or robot which can do every household work. “You can just ask it to walk your dog, take care of your house, babysit the kids, cook dinner, play the piano — so it’s a generalised humanoid robot,” he said.
Towards a ‘Robotic’ era
With reports from FactSet, the entire value of the S&P 500 currently stands at $45.5 trillion. Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed Thursday that his company’s Optimus humanoid robots could eventually make the automaker worth more than half of that.
During the 2024 annual shareholder meeting in Austin, Texas, Musk said that Tesla is embarking on not just a “new chapter” in its life, but is about to write an entirely “new book.” He highlighted that Optimus could be one of the main characters in his ‘new book.’
Furthermore Musk also said that he believes one day will come when every human would have a robot of their own. Each of the robots will be created specifically for individuals’ needs. Musk seems to consider Tesla’s Optimus robots as one of the company’s most valuable assets.
