All X accounts with more than 2,500 verified subscriber followers will get X premium features including the ability to make longer posts and edit them on the fly for free, Elon Musk has announced. X Premium Plus features will be available to those with over 5,000 verified followers at no extra charge.

The announcement comes only hours after Musk “enabled” free access to xAI’s Grok chatbot for all X Premium subscribers (which was previously available to Premium Plus users only). The move is seen as an attempt to make subscriptions more lucrative which eventually could bring more money even as advertisers continue to move away from the platform previously known as Twitter.

Musk revealed the plans through a post on X. All X accounts with 2,500 verified subscribers will be able to enjoy premium services like an add-free experience, and will be able to edit posts on X, following the announcement. Premium services will also give users access to xAI’s ChatGPT rival chatbot, Grok. Earlier, Grok was accessible for users who had X Premium Plus subscription and it was chargeable for Rs 1,300 per month.

Content creators and influencers will be amongst the users who will be most benefited by this new initiative by Musk.

In order to lessen the microblogging platform’s reliance on advertisers, the billionaire has shifted his focus towards subscription plans. The aim is to bring more revenue for the social media platform.

Musk recently took legal action against OpenAI for allegedly straying from its original not-profit mission and adopting a for-profit model.
