The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is ramping up its digital transformation efforts with the development of a new mobile application named “e-Aadhaar.” Currently under development, this app will allow users to conveniently update key details such as their name, address, date of birth, and mobile number right from their smartphones. The new Aadhaar app will soon be available for both Android and iOS devices to download from the Play Store.

UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar stated that out of the 1 lakh Aadhaar authentication devices in operation, around 2,000 have already been upgraded to accommodate the upcoming system.

The revamped Aadhaar app will allow users to confirm their identity at retail outlets, hotel receptions, and while travelling. This means carrying a physical Aadhaar card or submitting photocopies for hotel check-ins, travel, or shopping will no longer be necessary.

What is New e-Aadhaar App?

On April 8, 2025, the Union Minister introduced the beta release of the redesigned Aadhaar mobile application, developed in partnership with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The updated app brings a host of new functionalities and stronger security measures. It enables users to authenticate and share their Aadhaar information digitally while safeguarding personal privacy. With this upgrade, Aadhaar verification will be as quick and effortless as completing a UPI transaction.

Sources from UIDAI indicate that the forthcoming app could significantly cut down on the necessity of visiting Aadhaar enrolment centres for regular updates. Most modifications will be possible remotely via an intuitive interface, removing the hassles of long queues, excessive paperwork, and prolonged wait times.

In addition, UIDAI plans to source user data straight from verified government databases. This will cover documents such as birth certificates, PAN cards, passports, driving licences, ration cards under the PDS scheme, and MNREGA records. Electricity bill details may also be incorporated to make address verification even more seamless.
