Snap at its annual Lens Fest developer event announced integration of ChatGPT, a large language model developed by OpenAI, into its AR lenses. This integration will allow developers to create new types of learning, conversational, and creative experiences for Snapchat users.
“We teamed up with Open AI to offer a new ChatGPT Remote API. Now, any Lens developer can leverage ChatGPT in their Lenses, unlocking new types of learning, conversational, and creative experiences for Snapchatters. Also, a new 3D face mask generator enables anyone to build their first potentially viral self-expression Lens within a matter of seconds, combining Gen AI and our state-of-the-art face mesh capabilities,” company wrote in a blog post.

ChatGPT-powered AR lenses could also be used to create new and engaging forms of news and entertainment. For example, a news lens could provide users with live updates on current events, or a quiz lens could challenge users to test their knowledge of current affairs.
The integration of ChatGPT into AR lenses is still in beta, but Snap expects to launch the new feature to all users in the coming months. This development is a significant step forward for AR technology, and it has the potential to change the way we interact with the world around us.
