On Tuesday OpenAI rolled out the new update for all supported macOS versions. Moreover OpenAI added a ‘companion window’ for the ChatGPT app that can be accessed side-by-side with another app.
ChatGPT in macOS
With the new update you can open the smaller window of ChatGPT just by pressing the ‘Option + Space’ button on the keyboard. Earlier the buttons only opened a mini prompt text field . This could only allow you to activate the ChatGPT app in a full window.
Now you don’t need to switch between apps while using the entire window. Just minimize the ChatGPT window and get access to other apps side by side. So how can you fit the ChatGPT window with other tabs? Here’s how you can use ChatGPT along with other tabs:
- First click the Option + Space shortcut to
- Next start a new chat
- After that refocus the cursor to an open companion window
- Lastly, just reopen the last companion window
Customize its position, reset time, and keyboard shortcut in Settings. You can also pop out a previous conversation into a companion window by clicking the icon from the main desktop app window.
Other updates
Furthermore, this change is not the only update in ChatGPT’s latest version. OpenAI claimed that it has also brought improvements to data analysis. The company added that now ChatGPT-generated tables and charts will have a new expandable view that you can interact with. In addition to this you can also “customize and download charts for presentations and documents.” Now you can also get an option to disable macOS autocorrect. You also get a setting to show ChatGPT in the dock or menu bar or do both.
In an official blog OpenAI added that now you can pick specific table cells for ChatGPT to conduct further analysis on. OpenAI has also come up with other bunch of updates.These includes:

- Added Command + to stop streaming responses:
- Added Command + Shift + 1 to quickly share the main desktop
- Added Command + Shift + 2 to quickly share the active window
Enhanced functionality
- You can now scroll code blocks, math formulas and tables horizontally.
- Get an added support for @mentioning GPTs.
- Now you can choose which display to screenshot.
- It has also introduced a “Launch at Login” option, which is off by default.
