OpenAI’s ChatGPT suffered from an outage recently. Users reported that the AI chatbot was having difficulties in generating responses, particularly on mobile devices running Android.
Attempts to use the artificial intelligence-powered chatbot through the Android app were met with an error message hinting at server problems. Similarly, users accessing ChatGPT via the iOS app and web version were also experiencing issues, getting a “Request Timeout” message when attempting to use the AI chatbot.
According to Downdetector, a platform that monitors online outages, the incidence of OpenAI outages surged from 11 am on May 3, with a significant portion—90 percent—of reported problems attributed to ChatGPT. Additionally, a smaller percentage of users encountered issues with the website—8 percent —and login functionality—2 percent.
As is usually the case, users flocked to social media platforms like X (previously known as Twitter) to report the ChatGPT outage.
OpenAI seems to have resolved the issue at the time of writing as its “status” website is showing “all systems operational” message meaning, all is back to normal.
Similar problems were reported with ChatGPT last month, affecting about 91 percent of users across various platforms. OpenAI had acknowledged the outage, attributing it to “increased latency and errors affecting both ChatGPT and APIs.”
These ongoing issues highlight the challenges faced by OpenAI in maintaining the reliability and availability of ChatGPT, a widely used artificial intelligence tool, that’s currently the Internet’s big viral trend.
