OpenAI unveiled GPT-5, its newest and most powerful AI model to date. The company is rolling out access to all users, including those on the free tier. According to OpenAI, GPT-5 offers significant improvements in speed, intelligence, and overall functionality, with major enhancements in areas such as content creation, programming, and medical applications.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described GPT-5 as a powerful tool that makes PhD-level expertise on any subject accessible to everyone. “GPT-5 is the first time that it really feels like you’re talking to an expert in any topic,” Altman said in comments to the media.

GPT-5 offers widespread enhancements over GPT-4o:

OpenAI states that GPT-5 offers widespread enhancements over GPT-4o in several key areas, such as precision, processing speed, logical reasoning, contextual understanding, analytical structure, and advanced problem-solving.

“GPT5 is our strongest coding model to date. It shows particular improvements in complex frontend generation and debugging larger repositories. It can often create beautiful and responsive websites, apps, and games with an eye for aesthetic sensibility in just one prompt, intuitively and tastefully turning ideas into reality,” OpenAI noted in its blog introducing its latest AI system.

GPT-5 now uses a unified core model for general tasks:

The most significant development lies in its integrated architecture: GPT-5 now uses a unified core model for general tasks, while more complex or demanding challenges are handled by a specialized component known as GPT-5 Thinking, designed specifically for deeper reasoning.

GPT-5 will be accessible to users across all tiers, including Free, Plus, Pro, and Team plans. This means even those on the free version of ChatGPT will have access to GPT-5. OpenAI has also announced that Enterprise and Education (Edu) users will gain access within the next week.

As for usage limits, subscribers on paid plans can use GPT-5 without limitations and will also benefit from GPT-5 Pro features. Additionally, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users will be able to set GPT-5 as their primary model for routine use.
