In a move to seemingly thank its loyal customers and attract even more users, state-owned telecom company BSNL is offering extra validity and data on select prepaid plans. The development comes on the heels of a significant surge in BSNL’s user base, with millions of people switching over from private telecom providers like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone after they hiked their prices in June 2024.
BSNL has announced a special offer to usher in the new year. Specifically, on the Rs 2,399 prepaid plan, the telco now offers extended validity while keeping the other benefits as is. This plan usually has a validity of 365 days. However, through January 16, this has been increased to 425 days which is to say that the validity has been extended by another 30 days.

As part of the promotional scheme, customers opting for the Rs 2,399 plan get 2GB/day data along with unlimited calls and 100 SMS daily for 425 days at no extra charge. The bump in validity increases the data quota from existing 730GB to an impressive 850GB (an increase of 120GB). BSNL clearly aims to incentivise customers investing in its long-term plans luring them to either stay put or attract new subscriber base who might be tempted by the prospects of more data and calling perks without any significant rise in prices.
BSNL saw an impressive increase in customers between July and October 2024, with millions porting their numbers to its network. This customer loyalty is now being rewarded.
This isn’t the first time BSNL has rolled out enticing offers. The company recently launched a national Wi-Fi roaming service for its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) subscribers. This allows customers to connect to BSNL Wi-Fi hotspots across India at no extra cost, ensuring they stay connected while traveling. BSNL also introduced a new fibre-based live TV streaming service called IFT TV, with over 500 channels and a separate data quota so users can enjoy uninterrupted entertainment.
