Apple plans to bring an updated version of its AirTag soon. As reported by Mark Gurman, the new AirTag could be in the market by 2025. The tech giant aims to bring a better version of one of its popular products in the new year.
Reportedly, the second-generation AirTag, or AirTag 2, is made to come with a significantly longer tracking range. This eventually can make it easier for you to locate your lost items. Here’s a detailed look at what the update could bring to you.
AirTag 2 is here!
The AirTag 2 is aimed at improving users’ experience, with its extended tracking capabilities. This could be powered by Apple’s second generation Ultra-Wideband (UWB) chip. Notably, this chip was first introduced last year in the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and iPhone 15. This new chip has the ability to offer up to three times the range of the original UWB chip currently existing in the first-generation AirTag.
The next-gen AirTag has the potential to provide a tracking range of approximately 60 metres (around 200 feet). This is similar to the Precision Finding feature which is already available on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 models. But what is this ‘Precision Finding’ feature and how does it improve the Airtag? This is a useful feature which helps you to locate your families/friends in crowded places. So, with this extended range the AirTag2 is likely to make finding lost items much easier.
Other updates
Apart from the above mentioned features, the updated version of the AirTag can get an improved speaker. The new AirTag2 is expected to showcase a redesigned built-in speaker that can be more difficult to remove. This adjustment is aimed at tackling safety concerns, especially the misuse of this device for stalking purposes. However, there’s no official announcement about the product.
In other news, Apple recently announced the release of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2. In an official blog, the tech giant introduced a bunch of new Apple Intelligence features to update your user experience. The list of new features includes an advanced ChatGPT, Genmoji, visual intelligence and image playground.
