Apple’s iOS 18.2 update to include battery charging time estimates and enhanced battery health features

As Apple prepares for the official rollout of iOS 18.2, users can look forward to these new features aimed at improving battery management, making charging more predictable, and ultimately extending the lifespan of their devices.

Apple is working on a new feature for iPhones that will provide users with estimated charging times. The feature, discovered in the latest iOS 18.2 beta by 9to5Mac, is part of Apple’s ongoing efforts to improve battery health management and user experience with their smartphones.

The new functionality, which is linked to a framework named “BatteryIntelligence,” will calculate and display the estimated time required to reach a full charge. Currently, iPhone users only see the percentage of battery life left but have no indication of how long it will take for the device to charge completely. With iOS 18.2, Apple aims to address this gap, helping users better manage their charging routines. The feature, still under testing, may be rolled out in the final version of iOS 18.2, expected to launch in early December.

In addition to the new charging time estimate, iOS 18.2 builds upon the battery health features introduced earlier in iOS 18. The update includes new options to limit the maximum charge level of the device, allowing users to choose whether they want to charge their iPhone to 80%, 85%, 90%, or 95%.

Moreover, iOS 18.2 will continue to alert users when their iPhone is charging with a suboptimal charger, ensuring that the device is being powered up efficiently. If the charger being used is slower than the iPhone’s optimal charging speed, users will receive a notification, encouraging them to switch to a more suitable charger for faster charging. Apple is also including performance enhancements and bug fixes in iOS 18.2, improving overall system stability and addressing minor issues reported by users during the beta testing phase.
