Apple WWDC 2024 Live Stream: What to expect
Apple is set to unveil a groundbreaking AI system called Apple Intelligence for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac at WWDC 2024, according to Bloomberg. Apple Intelligence will introduce beta AI features across Apple’s platforms and apps, including access to a ChatGPT-like chatbot powered by OpenAI. The focus will be on practical features such as AI-powered summaries, reply suggestions, and enhancing Siri’s capabilities.
This overhaul aims to provide Siri with greater control over apps and cater to applications with broad appeal. Siri is expected to receive significant improvements, positioning it to better compete with Google Assistant and Alexa.
To access Apple Intelligence, users will need devices powered by an M1 chip or later for iPads and Macs. For iPhones, the requirements may be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and the upcoming iPhone 16 series. Importantly, these AI features will be optional, allowing users to opt-in.
In addition to the AI system, Apple plans to introduce several other updates at WWDC 2024, starting June 10. Apple will reportedly overhaul the “Settings” apps for both iOS and macOS, aiming for a cleaner interface, improved organisation, and enhanced search capabilities. This revamp will extend to the macOS System Settings app.
The Control Centre in iOS will see notable improvements, including a new music widget and better smart home appliance controls. The Messages app will receive new features, allowing users to animate individual words in their texts and introducing new Tapback icons for reactions.
The Photos app will get a user interface makeover to streamline photo browsing and editing, while the Mail app will see functionality improvements. Users will also be able to change app icon colours in iOS 18 and arrange app icons freely on the home screen.
