Apple today launched the latest edition of the iMac, powered by the new M4 chip, promising improved speed and performance inside an “all-in-one” package. With an ultra-thin design, vibrant colours, and upgraded hardware, this 2024 desktop is designed to offer faster productivity and advanced AI features through Apple Intelligence (which is also going live today with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 updates rolling out simultaneously at the time of writing). Pre-orders start today, with general availability from November 8. The new iMac starts at Rs 1,34,900.
M4 iMac 2024: Specs, features
The M4 chip—the big new upgrade in the 2024 refresh—makes the new iMac up to 1.7x faster for daily tasks and 2.1x faster for heavy-duty processes like photo editing and gaming, Apple says, although this is compared to the M1 model from 2021. The integrated 16-core Neural Engine enhances AI-powered workflows and with 16GB of unified memory by default across the entire line-up, it is built from ground-up for Apple Intelligence.
The iMac boasts a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display same as its predecessor, but you also get a nano-texture glass option this time for glare reduction. Buyers can choose from seven vibrant colours—green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver—giving the desktop a fresh, expressive look. Each iMac also comes with matching accessories, including a Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse (or optional Magic Trackpad), now featuring USB-C connectivity.
