Apple is planning on another big project for its users. Apple seems to bet big on bringing its own chip for supporting Wi-Fi and bluetooth. According to Reuters, the Cupertino tech giant aims to replace some of its parts currently provided by Broadcom. The plan is slated to be executed in 2025. Here’s what the tech giant is planning to do in the upcoming new year!
Apple to bring its own chip
Reportedly, the chip is code-named Proxima and has been in development for several years. This chip would replace the need for other third-party broadco/internet providers. As reported by some people associated with the plan, this would be slated to go into the first products in 2025. Similar to Apple’s other in-house chips, Proxima will be produced in partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
The transition is separate from Apple’s highly anticipated shift from Qualcomm Inc. cellular modems. However, some speculations suggest that for this ambitious project the two parts could eventually work together.
The future roadmap
Looking ahead, Apple’s vision is to develop an end-to-end wireless approach that is integrated with its other components. Also, this could be more energy-efficient, said the people. Note that their names couldn’t be identified because the initiative has not been announced officially. Also, some representatives for Palo Alto, California-based Broadcom and Cupertino, California-based Apple, declined to comment on this matter. Moreover, Apple is yet to make any official announcements.
Some reports by Bloomberg News highlighted that shares of Broadcom fell as much as 3.9 per cent to US$175.99 as soon as the speculations about these upcoming plans spread. On the other hand, Apple rose less than 1 per cent to US$248.53 as of 1.23pm in New York.
In other news, after much anticipation Apple announced the release of macOS Sequoia 15.2, iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2. In an official blog, Apple introduced a bunch of new Apple Intelligence features to update your user experience. This includes, image playground, Genmoji , an advanced ChatGPT, and visual intelligence.
