Last year, OpenAI released ChatGPT and it took the internet like a storm, and several tech giants saw it as an opportunity to join the race. Since then, Microsoft, also an investor in OpenAI, integrated ChatGPT-powered tools in its products and sooner, Google also followed this move with Bard.
Apple, in August this year, confirmed that the company has been working on generative AI for years and will continue to do this. On Thursday, the company’s CEO during a recent call with investors confirmed that Apple is indeed working on generative AI and the rumours suggest that it is expected by 2024.

While key details remain scarce, and it comes after a 9to5Mac nothing official has been revealed thus far, although, this corroborates with previous reports, too, it should be taken as a pinch of salt.
Tim Cook, as per a 9to5Mac report, said during an investor call that Apple is working on generative AI and the company is investing heavily in research and development. Apple’s research budget has also seen a surge and reportedly hiked to USD 23 billion annually.
While he confirmed that Apple is spending on R&D on building a generative AI tool, key details remain scarce. He says that the work is going on. And he wouldn’t get into details because we [Apple] don’t do that. He adds that Apple is going to do it responsibly and product advancements are expected, Tim Cook added.
There have been speculations about whether Apple’s chatbot will compete toe-in-toe with those of Google, Microsoft and others.
