The Apple Watch Series 10 has an edge-to-edge wide-angle OLED display, offering 30 percent more screen space and a 40 percent increase in brightness compared to its predecessor. It is available in a sleek jet black glossy finish, alongside rose gold and silver aluminum options. In a significant change, the stainless steel casing has been replaced with titanium, available in natural, gold, and gray hues.
At just 9.7mm thick, the Series 10 is approximately 10 percent slimmer than the Series 9. It also features the fastest charging capability ever seen in an Apple Watch, reaching up to 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes. The Series 10 is powered by the new S10 SiP.

New AirPods are also on the horizon. Apple is expected to refresh the entry level and mid-tier AirPods bringing in the AirPods 4 and AirPods SE. The AirPods 4 may include a bunch of high-end features including active noise cancellation and integrated speaker for Find my location tracking. The AirPods SE should replace the AirPods 2. Both new AirPods are expected to have a design similar to the AirPods Pro. USB Type-C charging is also a dead given at this point.
Apple was also expected to launch the Apple Watch Ultra 3 alongside the Apple Watch Series 10, but last minute leaks suggest, that won’t be the case. So, it appears, there will be no new Apple Watch Ultra this year. Instead, Apple may introduce a new black colour option for the existing Apple Watch Ultra 2. The entry-level Apple Watch SE is due for an upgrade, too, but it isn’t immediately clear if this will happen today.
The iPhone 16 series will be accompanied by other hardware, according to reports. Easily the most anticipated product is the Apple Watch Series 10 since it marks 10 years of the Apple Watch. Reports suggest we may be looking at a sleeker design and increased screen real estate. Apple seems to be working on a bunch of new health features to make it more useful and the list includes support for sleep apnea monitoring. Having said that, blood-oxygen saturation measurement may remain a no-show in some markets owing to Apple’s ongoing patent dispute with Masimo Corp.
Currently, Apple Intelligence is limited to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max (and other Apple devices including iPad and Mac). Apple says the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus don’t have it because RAM is a bottleneck. With the iPhone 16 series, that bottleneck may be removed as all of the new devices, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, will reportedly come with 8GB RAM by default. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are expected to come in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB configurations. With the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple may now start with 256GB storage and going up to 1TB.
Even though AI will play a big part in today’s iPhone 16 launch, reports suggest the new iPhones may not even ship with Apple Intelligence features out of the box when they go on sale later this month. This is tentatively September 20, 2024. This is because iOS 18.1 which has some–not all–of Apple’s new AI features, won’t be ready before October. Moreover, many features including Image Playground and Genmoji have apparently been pushed to launch later in the year. More comprehensive Siri updates are coming only next year while ChatGPT integration is coming by end of this year.
Apple CEO Tim Cook makes the customary tweet to hype up the Glowtime event in advance. Cook has taken to X (the platform previously known as Twitter) to say and we quote: “Apple Park is glowing! #appleevent.” For those unaware, the glow is a reference to Siri and all the AI capabilities that Apple is building under the Apple Intelligence banner. Anyhow, more details will become clear in a few hours from now. Not too long to go.
A Finacial Times report suggests that Apple is looking to tap into ARM’s V9 architecture for its next-generation A18 chip. The V9 also serves as the building block for the M4 chip seen recently on the iPad Pro and soon to launch on the Mac Mini and MacBook Pro at a separate event in October 2024. But anyhow, A18 is supposed to be a big deal as it will enable AI across the entire iPhone 16 lineup. Of course, some of this also has to do with more RAM that Apple is expected to put in these upcoming iPhones.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus may start at USD 799 (roughly Rs 67,100) and USD 899 (roughly Rs 75,500) same as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This is according to a report from TrendForce. The iPhone 16 Pro is tipped to start at 256GB storage and priced at USD 1,099 (roughly Rs 92,300). The iPhone 16 Pro Max may be priced starting at USD 1,199 (roughly Rs 1,00,700). That said, Apple may increase prices slightly across the lineup to offset impact of jacked up prices of components like memory. India prices could be wildly different as always.
While the overall design may remain largely unchanged, Apple is expected to refresh the colour palette with new additions. The iPhone 16 Pro devices are long rumoured to include an all-new gold titanium finish. Apparently, it will replace the existing blue in the iPhone 15 Pro. For the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, speculation is rife that Apple may swap the existing yellow with white while introducing fresh new green, pink, and blue options.
The iPhone 16 series is reportedly set to get a new touch-sensitive DSLR-style shutter button called Capture Button to take photos and videos. The iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max all will get it. Speculation is rife that through this button, users will be able to light press to focus on their subject while a more intentional press will snap a photo. Users will also be able to swipe across the button to easily switch between photo and video modes or even zoom in and out.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max is reportedly set to receive a notable upgrade with a larger 6.9-inch display, up from the previous 6.7 inches. This bigger screen should enhance the viewing experience, offering more space for gaming, videos, and multitasking. One of the standout features of the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be its powerful camera system, which includes 5x optical zoom and new video recording capabilities. The iPhone 16 Pro will reportedly opt for a tetraprism telephoto lens bringing 5x optical zoom to it.
The iPhone 16 Pro will reportedly have a larger 6.3-inch display, up from the previous 6.1 inch. Under the hood, it will come powered by the A18 Pro chip with 8GB of RAM. The iPhone 16 Pro is of special significance with regards to cameras since Apple is apparently adding a tetraprism telephoto lens to it so as to offer 5x optical zoom bringing parity with the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This means, the iPhone 16 Pro could end up giving more or less the same photography experience as the iPhone 16 Pro in which case the major differences will boil down to screen size and battery capacity.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are set to feature a new vertically stacked rear camera design, offering a sleek and modern look. But it’s not just about aesthetics—these upgraded cameras will reportedly also support the ability to capture spatial video, allowing users to record in stunning 3D.

What this also means is that, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus also won’t have any mute switch marking the end of an era for Apple.
