Apple today launched the “Apple Store app” in India in a bid to deepen its connection with customers by offering a more personalised and seamless shopping experience for its range of products and services on mobile phones. This move comes as Apple’s market share in India touches a record 10 percent, solidifying its growing presence in the world’s fastest growing smartphone market.

“At Apple, our customer is at the centre of everything we do, and we are thrilled to introduce the Apple Store app to reach even more users in India, further deepening our connections,” said Karen Rasmussen, Apple’s head of Retail Online. “With the Apple Store app, customers will discover a new and seamless way to shop for all our incredible products, receive personalised support, and really experience the best of Apple.”

The Apple Store app is a mobile extension of the physical “Apple Store”, allowing customers to easily browse and purchase products, learn about key initiatives like Apple Trade In, and access personalised recommendations from anywhere. The app—which is available for download from the App Store—also connects users with Apple specialists for online support and provides access to Today at Apple sessions.

Personalisation is billed as a key feature, with options to customise Macs with more powerful components and customised engravings for AirPods, iPads, and Apple Pencils for free. Apple said a new feature coming soon will allow customers to add a digital gift message to their purchases.

iPhone market share hits 10%

The launch of the Apple Store app coincides with Apple’s growing success in the Indian smartphone market. According to Counterpoint estimates, Apple achieved a 10 percent market share during the October-December 2024 period, marking its entry into the top five smartphone brands by volume in India for the first time. This growth is attributed to increased local manufacturing of iPhones (including the Pro models) and the opening of Apple’s retail stores in Mumbai and Delhi in April 2023.

Apple’s expansion in India is set to continue, with plans for additional retail stores in Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai in the near future.

While previously you could buy Apple products only through third-party authorised resellers and e-commerce stores like Flipkart and Amazon, with the launch of the Apple Store Online in 2020, the company started selling them directly. With the Apple Store app, it now offers yet another medium for sales, as it continues to expand in both scope and scale.
