Apple has released the release candidate of iOS 17.2, and this update brings support for the Qi2 wireless charging standard to iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series smartphones. Qi2 is an enhancement to the existing Qi wireless charging standard, adding a MagSafe-like ring of magnets and increasing the charge rate to 15W. This means iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Pro models will support Qi2 wireless charging. This feature was previously only available on the iPhone 15. Android users can use magnetic wireless chargers for MagSafe iPhones.
Qi2 boasts several improvements over the previous Qi standard, including faster charging speeds, improved efficiency, and ability to detect foreign object. Qi2 support for iPhone 13 and 14 means that users can now enjoy up to 15W of wireless fast charging with Qi2-compatible chargers.

Qi2 chargers are designed to be more efficient, meaning less energy is wasted during the charging process. Qi2 chargers can detect foreign objects like keys or coins placed on the charging pad, preventing potential overheating and damage.
Users will need to update their devices to the latest software and use a Qi2-compatible charger to experience the benefits of the new standard.
The update is expected to be released to the public in the coming week, bringing not only Qi2 support but also introducing features such as the Journal app, spatial video capture for iPhone 15 Pro, and fix for swift access conflict crash that could occur with toolbar items.
