Airtel Payments Bank introduced its first smartwatch in India, signalling the telecom giant’s debut in the smartwatch market on Tuesday, March 19. Developed in partnership with wearable brand Noise and payment-technology provider Mastercard, this marks Airtel’s inaugural device launch. The standout feature of the Airtel smartwatch is its Near Field Communication capability which enables users to conduct contactless ‘Tap and Pay’ transactions of up to Rs 25,000 per day.

The price of the Airtel Payments Bank smartwatch is set at Rs 2,999 and it comes in black, blue, and grey variants. However, prospective buyers must be existing members of the Airtel Payments Bank to purchase it. While a bank account can be opened digitally, it’s a prerequisite for ordering the smartwatch. The Airtel watch is currently on sale and can be acquired immediately, exclusively through the Airtel Thanks app. It is not accessible for purchase on any other e-commerce platform or through offline retailers.

Airtel’s inaugural smartwatch boasts an NFC chip, facilitating contactless payments via the Airtel Payments Bank. Activation is achieved by linking the device to one’s savings bank account through the Thanks app.
Made by Noise, the Airtel smartwatch has a 1.85-inch square TFT display with 550 nits of brightness. It offers access to 150 cloud-based watch faces. Health and fitness enthusiasts will appreciate features like a stress monitor and SpO2 sensor. Additionally, Bluetooth calling is supported, and the device boasts an IP68 certification for dust and water resistance. Airtel asserts that the smartwatch’s battery can endure up to 10 days of usage.
