The tech society is worried about humans finding likings for generative AI chatbots. While this evolution in human-AI behaviour is expected to only grow in the coming years, an AIIMS doctor has shared an account of his past relationship, where he was expected to behave like modern-day AI bots like ChatGPT by his ex-girlfriend, while he himself was compared to a normal computer program of the past.

Dr. Datta, who practices his medical proficiency at AIIMS, shared a humorous take on how AI’s behaviour was expected by his previous partner during his college days. In a lengthy post on X (formerly Twitter), he shared how his negligence towards his partner led to a heartbreaking breakup, and had he learned from his mistakes like AI, his story could have had a different outcome.

AIIMS doctor compared his ex to ChatGPT

According to Dr. Datta, his girlfriend’s frustration emerged from his consistent failures to stand up for the partner, i.e., to remember important dates and uphold his habit of being late.

“It wasn’t because of another guy. It wasn’t because of long distance. It was because, in her words, ‘You don’t learn. You just repeat the same mistakes,” said Datta in his post.

“And she was right. I had the same excuses for being late, the same lines for forgetting anniversaries, the same “I was in dissection hall” story when I was actually asleep. I wasn’t evolving. I was just… running on rules,” he added.

This is where he had an epiphany. He figured out that his girlfriend’s expectations were eerily similar to modern AI chatbots – one where he had to learn and evolve, get better with time, and avoid making the same mistakes. “AI, on the other hand, is what she wanted me to be,” said Datta.

In contrast, Datta compared himself to the older computer programs – one that functions exactly in the way it was meant to. Like those old apps, it could never improve. That’s where the mismatch happened.

Datta advises to learn from AI

Once that realization kicked in, Datta started taking more interest in AI. “That was my first ‘aha’ moment. AI wasn’t just some abstract technology anymore. It was about building systems that could finally do what we wish humans did more often —> learn from experience,” he wrote.

“Now I am on a journey to teach all medicos about AI one X post at a time!” he humorously added.

While the doctor’s humorous post gathered a lot of interaction from humans, it also acts as a reminder that humans need to learn and improve like AI chatbots, all in a bid to make society a better place. It also highlights how quickly AI is growing in terms of intelligence and whether humanity is ready to keep it in check.
