In a major announcement, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has called on parents to ensure they carry out the compulsory biometric update for their children. According to the UIDAI regulations, a child’s initial Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) must be completed after they reach the age of five. This process involves capturing their fingerprints, iris scan, and an updated photograph.

If this biometric update is carried out between the ages of 5 and 7, there is no cost involved. However, if the update is postponed until after the child turns 7, a small charge of Rs. 100 will be applicable.

In its official communication, UIDAI emphasized that updating biometric details on time is essential to preserve the integrity and precision of the biometric records. UIDAI’s statement reads, “If the MBU is not completed even after 7 years of age, the Aadhaar number may be deactivated, as per the existing rules.” “Parents/ guardians are advised to update biometrics of their children/wards in Aadhaar, on priority,” UIDAI added in its statement.

Where Can You Update Aadhaar Biometrics?

Biometric updates can be carried out at any official Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorized Aadhaar enrollment center. Parents simply need to visit with their child, carrying the child’s Aadhaar card and a valid ID proof of the parent.

Steps to Update Your Child’s Aadhaar Details

Step 1: Head to an Aadhaar Centre
Visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorised Aadhaar enrolment facility. You can locate the closest one using the official UIDAI portal: https://uidai.gov.in

Step 2: Bring Necessary Documents
Carry your child’s original Aadhaar card along with your own Aadhaar card, as a parent or legal guardian, for identity verification.

Step 3: Complete the Update Form
Ask for the Aadhaar enrolment/update form at the centre. Fill it out with your child’s details and submit it to the official present.

Step 4: Capture Biometric Information
The centre staff will take your child’s biometric data — including fingerprints, iris scan, and a fresh photograph — as part of the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) process.

Step 5: Verify and Confirm
Carefully check all the entered details before final submission. Once done, you will receive an acknowledgement receipt for tracking the update.

Step 6: Data Processing
The officer will securely lock the data and upload the updated biometric information to UIDAI’s central database.
