The world of artificial intelligence is rapidly evolving with several big tech companies jumping on this bandwagon today. A recent debut in this space has been of Grok which promises to beat its predecessors with capabilities that push the boundaries of a chatbot.
Grok is developed by xAI, the AI company founded by Elon Musk. While OpenAI’s ChatGPT has long been the household name in conversational AI, Grok is built to take on ChatGPT with its set of unique tools. Grok brings some tricks to the table that ChatGPT doesn’t, while still having its own limits. Here’s a simple rundown of five things Grok can do that ChatGPT can’t, and one thing it can’t.
Five ways Grok beats OpenAI’s ChatGPT
1. Rebellious by nature: Grok has a rebellious streak, often skipping the usual AI politeness. The makers of Grok describe it as an AI with a “rebellious streak and an outside perspective on humanity, making it a unique and entertaining companion.”
2. Cracks you up: With a sense of humour, Grok can toss out witty, funny responses. ChatGPT might try, but it may not be as funny as Grok. It has a dedicated fun mode that you can switch to if you wish to read some witty reponses.
3. Real-time responses: Grok can conduct real-time web search on the internet to fetch your data. Grok can also interrogate specific X user profiles, posts, and links in real time and analyse data. Whether it’s breaking down someone’s take or their latest social media upload, ChatGPT doesn’t have that kind of social media investigative power.
4. No knowledge cutoff: Unlike ChatGPT, which operates with a fixed knowledge base, Grok’s understanding evolves with each passing day. As of today, February 23, 2025, it has access to latest insights across science, culture, and beyond.
5. Good complex problem-solving speed: Grok is designed for speed but so is ChatGPT. In fact, the latter is faster than Grok in giving responses. However, Grok is good with complex problems and gives results pretty fast.
One thing Grok can’t do
But Grok isn’t invincible. One notable limitation? It isn’t very accurate with old data. We asked if it was better than ChatGPT and the chatbot replied that it may not be as good as ChatGPT with data prior to year 2023.
