For how many years do you expect the light bulb at your wall to remain lit? 4-5 years at maximum? But what if we tell you that there is a bulb which is lit since 1901, i.e. 115 years. Yes, that’s true! A bulb in a small town of California enjoys the unusual honor of being the longest-lasting bulb known in existence. The 60-Watt bulb, along with many records, holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s oldest-known working bulb. The bulb got registered with Guinness on June 18, this year. Much surprising is that there is a dedicated website called centennialbulb.org. A webcam, maintain by the Livemore-Pleasanton Fire Department, live telecasts the bulb on the website.

If reports are to be believed,   the second-oldest bulb, known as the ‘Palace Bulb’, was installed on 1908 at the Byers Opera House in Fort Worth, Texas. The Third oldest bulb, as per to Guinness, has been in a New York City hardware store since 1912. While the fourth, known as ‘the bulb,’ is installed in a firehouse building in the town of Mangum, Oklahoma since around 1926. The Fifth one was installed in a washroom at the Martin and Newby Electrical Shop in Ipswich, England. It was dated from 1930, however, it burned out in January 2001.
