On October 14, the Moon will align directly between Earth and the ringed planet Saturn at night, Arvind Paranjpye, Director of the Nehru Planetarium at Nehru Centre, has said, The Indian Express reported.

This occultation of the planet will be visible from India. As per Paranjpye, this will be visible to the naked eye but a pair of binoculars or a small telescope will be most helpful. “If you have a good telescope, the event will be most enjoyable. The event will take place about half an hour after midnight on October 14,” Paranjpye added.

In astronomical terms, occultation refers to the event when one celestial object obscures another.

Observers are encouraged to watch the Moon and Saturn starting around 11:30 pm on October 14. Initially, Saturn will be visible to the east of the Moon, and as time passes, the gap between them will gradually narrow. Eventually, Saturn will begin to disappear behind the Moon. After approximately an hour, Saturn will reemerge from behind the lunar surface.
